“Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.” – Brian Tracy
Day 28 – Be Grateful And Express It By Writing A Gratitude List
How To Do This:
- Take a few moments for yourself.
- Breathe deeply a few times and think of all the things You are grateful for.
- Take a pen and paper and write 24 things that you feel gratitude for.
- It can be anything, from the so called “small” things to the ones we perceive as “big”.
- To take the best out of this exercise try to look for reasons to be grateful for throughout your day. Thus You will develop an attitude of gratitude.
We’ve practiced a version of this exercise on day 23 when we focused on writing a “Thank you letter” for an important person in our lives.
Today is about expressing gratitude in general, for being alive, healthy, for having shelter, food, water, for our friends and families, for everything that we so often take for granted.
This practice helps us realise that many of the things we consider as “normal” to have in our lives, in some other parts of the world they are still a luxury. Or that the wonderful electronic devices that have “touch screen” and that we so commonly use nowadays, were seen only in movies like Star Trek just a few decades ago.
Writing a gratitude list every day is a great tool to use to develop an attitude of abundance and openness to everything that life is offering us. This is our natural state, the one we are born with and that we experience anew when we get back in touch with our gut feeling. Gratitude is one of the gates to it.
I’ve seen its effects on myself and on the children I’ve been working with. In the speed reading training camps I’ve been with children of all ages, starting each day with writing a gratitude list was the best way to help them focus on the positive things in their lives.
And it’s an awesome tool to help us shift from negativity to positivity while going through some hard times.
So this is my take on today’s exercise. Here’s yesterday’s in case You missed it. Have fun with being grateful and writing your list. Share in the comments how it was for you.
With all my love,
Grateful Raluca
PS: I love this song from Amy Steinberg, I feel it’s perfect for writing a gratitude list. Enjoy! 🙂
